Methodology
Panels facing N, E, S and W through every hour of the in-game day, from our own tests. A panel only produces while the sun is on its face, so one facing covers about half the daylight (7:00 to 20:00).
On the April day the sun rises in the east about 8:00, sets in the west about 19:00, and at its highest (13:00) sits 25° from straight up on the north side. The sun's path moves with the in-game date, which moves on one day every 80 real minutes, so the best facing changes too: a single panel made the most facing south in January and October, north in April and July. Where you build makes no difference: the sun is a directional light, and the same four panels 1,700 m north, south, east and west of the map centre gave identical numbers.
