Monuments & Puzzles

Complete monument guide with puzzle routes, loot tables, and strategies for every monument.

01Monument Tiers

Monuments in Rust are divided into tiers based on the highest keycard required to complete their puzzle. Higher tiers offer better loot but come with more danger.

TierKeycardExamplesRisk Level
Tier 0NoneLighthouse, Supermarket, Gas Station, JunkyardLow
Tier 1GreenSewer Branch, Power Plant (start), Satellite DishMedium
Tier 2BlueWater Treatment, Airfield, Train YardHigh
Tier 3RedLaunch Site, Military Tunnels, Oil RigsVery High
SpecialNoneOutpost, Bandit Camp, Fishing VillagesSafe Zone

02Puzzle Preparation

Before running monument puzzles, prepare:

1. Keycard(s) for the tier you're running (green/blue/red) 2. Electric Fuses — most puzzles need 1-2 3. Radiation protection — Hazmat Suit recommended for Tier 2+ 4. Weapons and medical supplies 5. A bag nearby for respawning

Keycards are found at lower-tier monuments. Green cards spawn at Tier 0 monuments (tables at Lighthouse, Gas Station, etc.). Blue cards are found behind green puzzles. Red cards are behind blue puzzles.

Pro Tips
  • Green cards spawn on tables at small monuments — check every visit
  • Fuses are consumed on use — always carry 2-3 extras
  • Place a sleeping bag outside the monument before entering
  • Hazmat suit provides 50% rad protection — enough for most monuments

03Loot Run Routes

Efficient loot routes cycle through multiple monuments to maximize crate spawns.

Best beginner route: Supermarket → Gas Station → Lighthouse → Recycler

Mid-game route: Sewer Branch (green puzzle) → Power Plant (green+blue) → Airfield → Recycler

Endgame route: Military Tunnels → Launch Site → Oil Rig → Home

Recycling components immediately converts them to usable materials. Always recycle Gears, Springs, Semi-Auto Bodies, and Rifle Bodies — they yield the most scrap.

Pro Tips
  • Barrels along roads between monuments are free loot — hit them all
  • Military crates have a 25-minute respawn — time your runs accordingly
  • Elite crates have a 30-minute respawn — the best loot in land monuments
  • Locked crates take 15 minutes to unlock and attract every player on the server

04Safe Zone Rules

Outpost and Bandit Camp are safe zones with special rules:

- No weapons, items, or structures can be placed or used - Attacking near a safe zone marks you Hostile for 30 minutes - Hostile players are killed on sight by safe zone turrets - NPC vendors sell items for Scrap - Recyclers are available but heavily trafficked - Outpost has WB1, Bandit Camp has WB2

The 30-minute hostile timer is the most important rule. If you kill someone near (not just inside) a safe zone, you cannot enter for 30 minutes. Plan accordingly.
